Very Satisfied !!!
I have ben a lifelong Canon user until the P510. When Canon failed to increase pixels and Nikon did, I changed to Nikon and the photos have been fantastic. I do need to read more about it to fully take advantage of the many features it has and what it is capable of doing.
Only area for improvement is I wish it had a filter adoption device/ability to protect the lens. ThI can see where Nikon could incorporate an improvement and of course being a pixel person I hope they consider a 24 pixel in the next model upgrade which I will be one of the first to purchase. Thank you Nikon for a great camera !!!

Nice camera. Nice price.
I bought this camera for the zoom lense. It was less expensive than buying a zoom lense for my dslr camera. I am very surprised at the quality. It is very good. I like it for nature shots. The only issue I have with it is the very short battery life. I have a spare and they both die out after only a couple of hours. Very disappointed in that. I also wish I could get raw data on it. But I will get through that because of the convenience of this camera.

Very good camera for hobbyist who is interested in wild life photography
I got this camera last month. I am using the aperture mode of this camera most of the time particularly while shooting in forest area. Aperture mode gives good photo on this camera for me. Video quality is excellent, but the disappointing factor is the " temporary loss of focus while changing the optical zoom". It makes the video completely useless irrespective of its video quality. Firmware update for correcting this problem is urgent, and NIKON people, please do something on this matter urgently. About photo quality, Wide angle shots a very good and sharp, but shots at high zooms are not so good. Manual zoom is very good, but manual focus control is very sensitive and is a difficult task to manually focus on something

All Good News Except One Thing
This is nothing short of a terrific camera. Everything works just as advertised. The zoom is fantastic, the colors are great and the focus is pretty fast. Only one bad thing.... the manual is worthless, the one that came on CD with it is not much better. I had to scour the web and blogs and other sites to find out how to set some of the simplest things. To put out such a great camera with such poor directions is truly a shame. Let's get with it Nikon, Canon writes great detailed manuals, shouldn't you too?

Question about the FLASH, please help!
I just bought this camera and trying to figure all the buttons I pressed the flash button and it came out easily but when i tryed to close it I couldn't at first than i figured that i had to push it really hard,
did someone had the same issue?
Is this normal or i received a defective one?
Can somebody help me out? PLEASE

Nikon Coolpix 510 some changes have been made from the 500.
Nikon has a 2 year warranty which is good. Gone is the Stereo Mic for Video in it's place a GPS tracker which I won't use. Apparently the GPS does not work well. Nikon up the analog Zoom from 36 to 42X but @
almost max zoom it loses focus, it can be corrected but you have to learn the cameras functions. I love the tilt 3 inch screen for high or low shots. This is the reason I did not buy D3100 the screen is fixed. WHY?
The video is 1080 but on the 500 panning trails your subject. Video is some what better outdoors. I'm still reviewing the 510 which I bought in RED it's a beautiful color. I paid 354.00 on sale with a Low Pro camera bag. I also purchased a PNY class 10 16g SD card ( 24.00 ) It works for me. 5 13 2012/ npa.

Excellent camera at affordable price
I just got (after long waiting) this camera with telescope like zoom! Image quality is also not bad at max zoom. However, imaging at night is going to be challenging. In simple word, it is an excellent camera at affordable price.

all around great but with a couple of downsides
This camera in general is great but there are a few things to think about before purchasing it. It has a digital viewfinder which is unpleasant compared to the viewfinders on the SLRs by nikon. Another downside is the fact that there is too much glass in the super-zoom lens making slightly warped images. They also packed too many megapixels into its sensor, the camera is not strong enough to have 16.1 million effective pixels. Some upsides to this camera are the super zoom (get an example of this if you click "overview" and then "learn more"),the low light pictures and the macro focus of only 1 cm. away from the lens. I recommend this camera.

Very good camera but with a couple of serious flaws.
The zoom is fantastic. The quality of the photo's are incredible. (check my photo of the moon. Made without tripod, with NRB, see below) The flirting pigeons were 40m away. I didn't resize the pictures, only cropped, so you can see each pixel coming from the CMOS, however, this site doesn't provide the full resolution uploaded.
Many of the settings, especially the sweep panorama works great (even with people moving, if not too much). Other great unique features are: noise reductions burst (NRB for very sharp photos at low light with low noise), High dynamic range (HDR, for counter light and high contrast situations), pre-shooting cache.
The shortcomings which Nikon could solve with a firmware upgrade (please Nikon, do it!!!):
NRB can only be used in some scene modes. I would like to use it in manual mode. The same for HDR. Please provide RAW format! ISO is limitted to 100 when you want to make photos at long shuttertimes (>1,3sec) even in manual.
The Filter diameter is not standard. Please provide a decent filteradapter to 52mm.
Shortcommigns that can't be solved, but nikon could take it into account for the next generation:
No hotshoe nor any possibility for wireless flash.
High Diafragma values (Max = F8. I would like to have up to F22, to make photo's at low speed when there is much light). Low diafragma values (min=F3 wide and F5,9 tele. I would like to have up to 1,2. I would pay for the camera if it existed. Especially withe these small CMOS, this should be much cheaper to make than for SLR).
No rotation detection. This was really a disappointment. I didn't check that one before buying because I taught all modern camera's have this standard.

good and not good experience
Good is covered from others, but
the viewfinder does have a too small area, I have to squeeze my nose to reach the hard plastic viewfinder and often have no clear view and miss important pictures! At least there is a soft rubber shoe needed similar to Panasonic Lumix FZ 50. I removed the shoe from the Lumix and it fits (at least for a short time) on the P 510 and the improvement is immense. Please Nikon offer such a solution to your customers for this camera and/ or advise where to get it !!!
The video quality is good but only works by replaying in the camera. When transferred to my computer
it stops and goes and works not at all, which is very disappointing. At least NIKON should give hints to solve the problem to it's customers.
The camera came without any bag, even not with a $ 2,oo linen bag to protect against sun light .
Please NIKON offer such a very simple camera bag to your customers.
The camera came with 1 year factory warranty but no word about extended factory warranty from NIKON.
Looking forward to solutions to make the camera worthwhile.
